RED MOUNTAIN EAST
A scenic route with a touch of edge — expect teeth-rattling steps and panoramic views reminiscent of the Rubicon Trail.

One of the most scenic trails of the event, Red Mountain offers unexpected views that often draw comparisons to the Rubicon Trail in California’s High Sierras. This route is the more challenging of the two Red Mountain trails and delivers a true high-country off-road experience. The trail features Commando Corner, its most notable obstacle, which has no bypass and requires careful line choice and commitment. From there, the route climbs into higher elevations, winding through pine-covered terrain and passing an old, abandoned cabin that makes an ideal lunch stop. Several sections are tight, and pinstriping is likely. Two lockers are recommended, though the trail is doable with one.
