RED MOUNTAIN WEST

Slightly softer than the East Loop, but no less stunning — ideal for drivers who want challenge with reward.

RATING 5.jpg

One of the most scenic trails of the event, Red Mountain offers unexpected views that are often compared to the Rubicon Trail in California’s High Sierras. This route is the less difficult of the two Red Mountain trails, but still delivers a rewarding off-road experience. The trail includes Commando Corner, the most notable obstacle on the route. There is no bypass, though descending the obstacle is considerably easier than climbing it. The trail climbs to higher elevations, winding through pine-covered terrain and passing an old, abandoned cabin that makes an ideal lunch stop. A few sections are tight, and pinstriping is likely. Either a front or rear locker is recommended.
